Social media is all about self promotion; whether that’s a fabulous selfie on Facebook, your latest outfit post on Instagram, or a well worded tweet.
Pinterest is also a social media resource which has a significant following, but is often more under promoted than other social media platforms. Its market share is increasing, so it’s still one to use for modelling.
What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is in essence an online virtual scrapbook – where users ‘pin’ their images to boards they have created on certain subjects. Everything from dogs in dresses, to LFW.
Why use Pinterest?
Pinterest is incredibly visual, and gives you the opportunity to use different boards to create virtual scrapbooks. So it’s great to demonstrate you can model different looks, and you can create tutorials for make-up and putting looks together.
It also has a huge amount of repins – so once you’ve pinned your photo, it can be repinned many, many times. This will get your face and your look out there, so brand your photos with your Model Cloud portfolio link.
What boards to create
This is where you can show your versatility for bookings. Create boards for editorial shoots, high fashion, published work, fashion shows, catwalk modelling, behind the scenes etc. Create a board for anything that will show your work and what you can offer.
Show some of your personality with behind the scenes shots, and then wow them with your modelling. You can also create boards for inspiration to highlight your creativity, and show you know how to put an outfit together.
Aim high! Create some motivational boards for where you want to get to in your modelling career – supermodels, runway shows and top billboard advertising jobs could all be boards that you can pin your favourite role models, advertising campaigns and designers to. This also shows you keep up to date with the latest trends, designers and campaigns.
Always put a description when you pin, but keep it simple with a title and a call to action.
Who to follow
Search for other users to follow: models, celebrity photographers, fashion houses, designers, and different fashion weeks around the world. This will boost your knowledge and creativity and increase your virtual networks.
