We’ve given you some pretty amazing places to add to your post lockdown holiday list, and now we’re going one step further and delving into the food sector. With restaurants slowly opening, we wanted to have a little look at some of the coolest, most unconventional ones out there!
From eating in the sky to being surrounded by marine life, here are our five favourites we wanted to share with you. Get scrolling through!
1Eat with the Giraffes at The Giraffe Manor, Kenya
You don’t get more unconventional than eating eggs on toast with some friendly giraffes saying hello at the window do you? You’ll have to be staying at The Giraffe Manor in order to have this bucketlist breakfast experience – they don’t allow you just to walk in – but still, we think it’s worth the money.
2Dine with marine life at Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, Maldives
We’re swapping giraffes for sea life and the African landscapes for the Indian ocean with our next suggestion. Situated 16ft below sea level in the Maldives, the restaurant – part of the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort – lets 14 guests dine underwater, surrounded by coral reefs and wonderful sealife. Interestingly – and thankfully – the restaurant, which was open at the time of the 2004 tsunami, sustained no damage.
3Eat on the toilet at Modern Toilet, Taiwan
I mean, I said these restaurants would be unconventional, did I not? Ever dreamed of going to a toilet themed restaurant? No? Well, you’re in luck, because somebody has and they’ve made it a reality in Taiwan. Prepare for the craziest restaurant experience with your food brought to you in toilet bowls (hopefully clean ones) as you sit on porcelain toilet seats whilst your drinks are served in urinals.
4Have a sing-along at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, New York
Unfortunately, Ellen’s doesn’t take reservations and when I tried to visit, the queue was snaking around the corner for at least a two hour wait, so I had to give it a miss. This just shows how popuar it is! A fun, 1950s, themed restaurant where you can eat your three course meal whilst listening and watching aspiring Broadway stars sing and dance all night long.
5Get served by robots at Hajime Robot Restaurant, Thailand
As much as this is described as a ‘casual’ restaurant, I can’t think of anything less casual than being served by robots and not humans. Located in Bangkok, when the ‘waiters’ have some free time, they even perform a dance for you! Make sure you pay a visit.
Have you been to any of these restaurants? How was it? Let us know in the comments below!
